What information are you looking for?

  • Please complete your pre admission form as soon as you have your date for surgery. The preferred method is via this online link. If you are having trouble accessing this online form please contact the Pre Admission Team on 03 83940735. Please do leave a message if after 4pm and we will get back to you.

    A pre admission nurse will review your health questionnaire and you will receive an SMS or phone call follow up.

    For Day Procedure Patient

    For Overnight Patients

  • What you bring:

    • Your Medicare card, and where relevant, your Health Insurance membership card, Veterans' Affair card, or Pensioner Comission card

    • A list of medications you are currently taking

    • Any recent and relevant X-rays, scans and test results

    • Any asthma puffer or CPAP mask if required

    • Power of Attorney, Enduring Guardianship and Advance Care Directive documentation (if applicable)

    • If you have one, your advanced care plan and/or treatment-limiting orders

    You also need to wear loose, comfortable clothing.

    For Day Procedure Patient

    For Overnight Patients

  • You will:

    • Be notified of your procedure time 24-48 hours prior to your admission

    • Be with us for approximately 3-4 hours

    You must:

    • Follow your fasting instructions

    • Have a responsible adult collect you from the hospital and stay with you overnight.

    For 24 hours after an anaesthetic, you will not be able to:

    • Drive a vehicle

    • Drink alcohol

    • Operate machinery

    • Make important decisions

    • Sign legal documents

  • The discharge time for all patients is between 9:00am - 9:30am. Please vacate your room before this time to allow us time to prepare for the next patient.

    On discharge, patients can be picked up from the Overnight Ward entrance door on Level 2 or at the car park on Level B1 to meet their assigned transport person. If the patient cannot be collected by this time, they can wait at reception on Level 1 or near the hospital entrance on the Ground Floor.

    VISITING HOURS

    • Visiting hours on the overnight ward are flexible, however visitors are asked to leave by 8pm for security reasons.

    • Any requirements outside these hours, please discuss with the nurse in charge.


    PLANNING YOUR DISCHARGE

    We take a holistic approach to your care from pre-admission to discharge.

    We encourage family/carer involvement in all aspects of your care. Bedside handover of your care occurs between nurses at changeover of shift times, we encourage your involvement and that of your partner/family/carer at these times.

    A communication whiteboard will be located in your room, it outlines your care for the day and tells you the name of your nurse each shift. You and your carer are encouraged to be involved in the filling in of your individual communication whiteboard.

    We regularly conduct consumer meetings to get feedback from patients and their relatives on what we can improve.

    • The visitors' carpark is located in Basement 1 (B1) on site at Monash House Private Hospital.

    • Accessed via Colonel St.

    • Parking fees apply

    • Specially marked disabled carparks are available on site.

    • Patient pick up / drop off – 3 minute drop off carparks are available directly outside the main entrance of the hospital.

    • Bus stops located outside the Clayton Road exit of Monash House

      • 703 – Blackburn to Middle Brighton

      • 631 – Waverley Gardens to Southland

      • 733 – Box Hill to Oakleigh

      • 824 – Moorabbin to Keysborough


    TRAINS

    • Monash House Private Hospital is walking distance (500 metres) from Clayton station.

    • You can catch either the Cranbourne or Pakenham train line to get to Clayton station.

  • Please make sure you discuss any dietary requirements with your pre admission nurse.

    Alternatively, please include this information on your pre-admission form.

  • Monash House Private Hospital has a designated Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander support officer, who is also the director of nursing and the compliments, complaints and feedback officer for the hospital.

    The Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Support Officer is available for any person who attends the Hospital to discuss specific care needs, goals and expectations, as is any member of staff throughout the hospital stay.

    Monash House Private Hospital welcomes input from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people that will assist us in providing the right cultural support and safe and quality care.

    If space is required for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to consult with family or health care workers within the hospital, please speak with our Support Officer who will arrange a room.

    Please advise the Support Officer or any member of staff if you require assistance with translations. Monash House Private Hospital encourages the support of family and friends in ensuring cultural and care needs are met, and that informed consent is made.

  • Private Health Insurance - please ensure you have contacted your private health fund to determine if you are covered for your upcoming procedure.

    QUESTIONS TO ASK YOUR HEALTH INSURANCE

    • Does my policy cover me for this procedure? – You will be provided with the appropriate item numbers.

    • Do I have an “excess” payment on my insurance policy?

    • Are there any co-payments required for each night I will be in hospital?

    • Does my policy exclude some treatments – for example cardiac, orthopaedic or rehabilitation?

    • Are any prosthetic or disposable items used in the surgery not covered by my insurance?



    WHAT MAY NOT BE COVERED BY MY HEALTH FUND?

    • Pharmacy (medicines required during your admission and discharge medications)

    • Pathology (e.g. blood tests)

    • Assisting surgeon

    • Other consultants

    • Ambulance transfers

    All estimated out-of-pocket expenses are payable before or upon admission.


    If you do not have private health insurance, you will be required to pay the full costing of your procedure. The hospital will provide you with a fee estimate prior to your admission. You will be required to pay in full prior to your procedure.
