Going the Extra Mile Deserves Recognition
In times like these, the importance of going the extra mile for your staff and patients is paramount. There are so many people putting in additional effort to care for our most vulnerable that I think everyone deserves a pat on the back.
However, one lady consistently shows the right behaviours week in and week out. She is too shy to be named, but there is no one better than the recipient of the March 'Above and Beyond' than her. Even her request to choose another person for the award demonstrates her humbleness and team-oriented approach. We will ensure she receives the voucher and will respect her request for privacy.
For some people, they may question why we continue to run these awards during these troubled times. As a leader, it is important that we must keep the routines and recognition of our staff. People like to see that familiar systems are being followed and some, 'business as usual', processes. Especially in times of disruption to so many things in our lives.
As leaders, we need to be visible and present to our teams. I highly encourage you to keep celebrating birthdays, congratulating staff on a job well done and keep some level of normalcy, even if it has to be remote. Social isolation can be hard on staff and patients so let's make an effort to keep moods positive and morale high.
I would love to hear your ideas on how to keep peoples spirits up and motivation strong.
