The Power of a Smile to Make a Difference to Someone in Need

Every year I am surprised and delighted when Melissa brings me flowers.

You wouldn't expect someone who worked with us over 18 months ago to come in regularly for a chat and bring us presents. Flowers, chocolates, it's the most delightful thing and tells me a lot about the person Melissa is and the personality of people we want in our organisation.

Before we built the current Monash House Private Hospital a bit over three years ago, there was a lot of preparation setting it up from the ground up. We really wanted to make an impact with our patients and demonstrate that we were the most caring and understanding medical provider they would visit.

Melissa was the Manager of the Hospital reception and she played an integral role in setting up administration. She was a ray of sunshine, she greeted every patient with such warmth and genuine authenticity and empathy as if they were a long lost friend or relative. Our organisation is a world leader in the management of interventional pain procedures and the alleviation of pain is foremost. It's what we strive to achieve each and every day. It's challenging to aim to be perfect… but we aim high.

I wish Melissa could have stayed with us at the hospital but starting a family was her priority and she stayed as long as she could. I am so grateful for her friendship as she really demonstrates the types of people we want working at our Hospital. Staff that genuinely love people, where nothing is too much trouble and understands that patients arrive anxious and nervous and that one caring gesture can make all the difference in their day. It costs nothing, but means everything.

We strive for this culture at Monash House. It's challenging to be perfect, but we do our best to attract the best people and provide the right environment to keep our service levels as high as possible. We are always looking for the right people to assist us.
